Really still quite Frazzled Thoughts

Days 11 - 13

Still going strong

Breakfasts - steak, leftovers (mince), steak & eggs

Lunches - mince with veges, vaguely middle eastern spiced; turkey steak and mushrooms; today - chicken livers with onions & mushrooms.

Dinners - mince-y stuff, spiced and one curry meal, tonight roast chicken & sweet potatoes.

Amazing, Eliz likes the chicken livers - and the "chicken sweat" bone broth, which we are having once or twice a week - must be doing something good for her - vitiligo stable, just a tiny bit more depigmentation around left eye.

My face looks less puffy, just might weigh myself tomorrow - half way now - but won't measure till the end. Waist no smaller though!

Now on Day Ten

The whole30 month is going well, breakfasts are mostly egg based, with veges or a "hash" with sweet potatoes and leftovers. Fried turkey steaks with mushrooms - yum!

Lunches seem to involve a lot of chicken with salad or veges. Chicken livers and a tomato sauce; leftover chicken with red onion and sweet potatoes, with salad etc.

Dinner - spiced lamb mince with coleslaw, roast chicken, more roast chicken, Baked salmon tonight. I think I'd better buy some beef! Needing that iron!

Made some more ghee, this time somewhat overcooked, more beurre noisette, but with a lovely caramel taste - not going to waste it :)

Still no energy for exercise but feeling more energy in general.

Had a very crisp tasty apple today - cameo I think.

Still looking for more sites with ideas for meals.

Days three and four

Hmm - breakfasts - eggs with skirt steak (fried 3 mins a side then put in the roasting oven for 5 mins, rest at least 5 mins) meat delicious!
- scrambled/muddled with a little bit of oregano, sauteed fennel and red peppers with leftover chicken, yum

leftover meatloaf/chicken and salad for lunch

baked chicken with lemon/pepper, brussel sprouts and an apple
meatloaf with salad for dinners

indigestion from coconut flakes - don't think coconut agrees with us

Day One & Two

Over the month of January I'm going to be working on a whole30 paleo/primal/diet/modified fast etc

Made my own ghee, tried red cabbage - ick and rutabaga oven fries - ok I guess.

Ghee fried eggs and turkey for breakfast, chicken and salad for lunch, even made my own dressing.
Dinner? probably meatloaf with veges.

I haven't done measurements yet, actually have to go find the tape! Although I did weigh myself on Sunday.

Autumn sniffles

Back to the autumn sniffles, two kids at home yesterday, one today (different child!) Only 5 deg C this morning, lovely warm fire required for that sniffly kid.

The housework is piling up, no ironing has been done for a week, I think I'm coming down with it too. The garden needs putting to bed for the winter, the pool is full of leaves, but wait - a teeny bit of sun is peeking through - relax, just relax and enjoy it.

Embrace the grey

On viewing photos to use on this blog - love the grey hair! (silver Mum, silver!)

I see so many women with dyed hair, it seems to be compulsory for those over 40 or even 30! Twenty-year-old hair with a forty-year-old face just doesn't look right to me. The contrast hardens the face and emphasises those little lines.

Naturally greying hair seems to soften the face instead. Well, that's what I think and I'm sticking to it!

Failed Homeschooler

So, am I a failed homeschooler? I don't know, we managed to last ten years, which is a lot longer than many people.

A clash in teaching / learning styles I think. Our son needing male company and lots of sporting activities - sick of playing with his two sisters - or more likely they didn't want to play with him! He was the first child to ask to go to school, at the age of 12. Once we visited the local High school our eldest (then 15) decided that she would like to go too in order to complete our local examinations.

Our youngest daughter had one year at home alone, she had always had her siblings for company and found it very hard by herself (tooooo much attention from Mum!) So at her request she was the youngest to start school at 10 1/2 this year. (School runs from late-Jan to early-Dec).

However, the ground work was there, the greater focus on character versus academics was there and we have benefitted from those years together as a family in close relationships and the opportunities to do things and go places we otherwise wouldn't have had. All three are coping well with the work required.

My stress levels are much reduced and I can now find the time to focus on my role as wife and mother with enjoyment.

Failure is a very subjective term.

Flowers are fading fast, days are shortening, but weeds still grow!

Why does this maple keep shooting off limbs? Its not even that windy and we have lost four branches in three weeks.

Is it autumn yet? Humid, humid weather.

These two were taken last year, I'm trying to find my current photos but they have vanished into the ether.

I tried to lighten this up on Picasa but ended up with a very yellow shot, maybe my printer is malfunctioning too. Hmmm I must try again.

I can't believe that someone has actually seen this blog! I got a comment! (and not just from my family) This is mostly an experimental site for me to play with, I'm a complete novice and am just going to put up whatever interests me. I know I haven't got the size of the photos right yet ( too big) so will try to sort that out soon.

A beautiful morning, about 12 C, stunning autumn colour on the route to school . Lots of oaks, maples etc, a quick trip out & back, ready for a trip into town to check mail and run some errands.
